The mistake to avoid locally

Blasting timber stairs and verandah boards with the concentrated jet. Old hardwood furrs up and stays rough — fan head, 30–40cm, always with the grain.

The general rule holds everywhere: concentrated jet at 10–20cm for concrete, pavers, joints, wheels and bins; wide fan head at 30cm or more for render, timber, glass, sealed stone and vehicle paint. Pre-wet the surface, wait two minutes, then work in overlapping passes and finish with a full rinse so the loosened grime leaves with the water.
